Bicholim police find ‘highway’ horse fit after medical exam

Panaji: An over five-year-old horse was brought to the Bicholim police station for a medical check-up after a video on social media platforms showed a horse been ridden on a state highway in Bicholim. The video, which was posted on Sunday, went viral, prompting the Bicholim police to summon the owner and the horse on Wednesday. The police also summoned a veterinary doctor to the station to examine the animal.Once doctors at the veterinary centre declared the horse healthy, it was allowed to leave with its owner. “I checked the horse in the presence of the Bicholim police inspector. He is healthy, well maintained, and well fed,” said veterinary officer, Dr Gayatridas Gauthankar. After the video surfaced on Sunday, police struggled to trace the horse.Bicholim police inspector Vijay Rane Sardesai said he began tracking it after receiving the clip and later got a complaint.“We traced one horse and walked it to the police station, but it turned out to be a different animal. We resumed the search, located the horse seen in the video, and called the owner. After the medical examination confirmed it was fit, the horse was handed back,” Rane said.Owner Kanishk Pednekar, a Bicholim resident, said he bought the horse about four-and-a-half years ago from Rajasthan and rides it frequently. He added that veterinary doctors from Pune visit Goa to check the horse whenever he calls them. Eight days ago, a Pune vet examined the animal and declared him to be fit, Pednekar said.
