BENGALURU: A Class 6 student of a private residential school in Karnataka died under “mysterious circumstances” on Wednesday, with his parents alleging that he was assaulted by the school’s physical training (PT) teacher before collapsing during the morning exercise session, news agenc PTI reported.As per the PTI report, the deceased, identified as Gurukiran, was a student of a private residential school at Kadayarappanahalli.Based on a complaint filed by the boy’s parents, police have registered a murder case against the PT teacher.According to the police, Gurukiran woke up around 5. 15am and reported to the playground at about 5. 30am for the school’s routine morning exercise. After completing two rounds of running, he suddenly collapsed on the ground.School authorities rushed the boy to a hospital. However, by the time his parents reached the hospital after being informed about the incident, Gurukiran had died, a senior police officer said.The boy’s parents have alleged that the PT teacher had beaten him twice shortly before he collapsed.A classmate also claimed that Gurukiran was assaulted after he went to the toilet before the exercise session began.The student further alleged that the PT teacher frequently beat students with sticks and rods over minor issues.Following the boy’s death, angry parents allegedly assaulted the PT teacher and demanded that he be handed over to them.Police intervened, rescued the teacher from the crowd and used mild force to disperse protesters after they blocked a police vehicle and demanded justice for the student.Police said the accused PT teacher has been taken into custody for questioning as part of the investigation.The post-mortem examination has been completed, and police said they are awaiting the autopsy report to ascertain the exact cause of Gurukiran’s death.(With agency inputs)
