Bengaluru police rescue 529 child labourers, register 105 cases

Bengaluru: In a major crackdown on child labour, city police and labour inspectors conducted surprise inspections at 6,076 establishments across the city Saturday and rescued 529 children. Police registered 105 cases against employers engaging child labourers under the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act and Juvenile Justice Act.The surprise inspections were conducted by special teams following directions from senior police officers. The highest number of rescues occurred in West division, which includes Byatarayanapura, City Market, Chamarajpet, Chandra Layout, Cottonpet, Kalasipalya, and Upparpet. A total of 754 locations were inspected in this division, with 103 kids rescued and 15 cases registered in various police stations.In East division, 74 children were rescued after 927 locations were inspected, followed by North (66 children rescued), Central (63), South (52), Northeast (47), and CCB (45). Electronics City division reported the lowest number of rescues (3). CCB police registered the highest number of cases at 26.
