BENGALURU: The Karnataka government has invited public suggestions on its draft comprehensive parking rules for the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), proposing annual parking permit fees of Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 for vehicles parked in front of houses.Citizens and stakeholders can submit their feedback on the draft rules until September 10.The proposed permit fee will vary depending on the type of car. The draft policy also seeks to address Bengaluru’s growing parking challenges through a fee-based parking system, with tariffs determined by factors including road classification and the location of parking facilities.To encourage the creation of organised parking infrastructure, the government has proposed incentives for owners of vacant sites. Properties used for multi-level or mechanised parking facilities could receive a 100% exemption on property tax, while those converted into surface parking facilities may get a 50% exemption.The rules also propose monthly passes for regular users of off-street parking facilities.Parking on highly congested arterial roads will be prohibited under the draft policy, while restrictions could be imposed on major roads during peak hours. Parking will also not be allowed around designated multi-level car parking facilities. The draft proposes higher charges for vehicles parked for longer durations.The government has also proposed stricter action against building owners who fail to provide parking spaces mandated under building regulations or misuse designated parking areas for other purposes.Suggestions can be emailed to acsuddoffice@gmail.com or submitted to the additional chief secretary, Urban Development Department, Vikasa Soudha, by September 10.
