BENGALURU: The food safety department has intensified its crackdown on hotels and food establishments in Bengaluru, with inspections resulting in the seizure and disposal of 132kg of food articles and 15 litres of used cooking oil.During the latest inspections, food safety officials found rotten meat, fish, vegetables and other food items at several establishments.At Skyee Lounge on the 16th floor of UB City, the kitchen was closed over unhygienic conditions, while meat and beef were found rotten and affected by fungus.Milk and curd that had expired around 10 days earlier were also found during the inspection.At Hotel Sky, UB City, officials found 45kg of rotten chicken and beef and 6kg of vegetable cutlets.They also seized 15 litres of used cooking oil.The 51kg of food articles were found unfit for consumption and discarded or destroyed as per procedure.At Royal Chain Hotel, officials seized 50kg of duck and 5kg of fish, taking the total quantity to 55kg.At Madras Kitchen, 5kg of green peas were seized, while 5kg of mushrooms were seized from Tescon Hotel.At Senchez Hotel, officials seized 3kg of fish, while 7kg of cake, potato and tacos were discarded.The latest action comes after the food safety wing intensified inspections across Bengaluru following complaints about food quality, hygiene and safety violations.A previous special inspection drive saw 30 teams inspect 26 three-star and five-star hotels, with food samples collected for laboratory analysis.Officials had flagged expired food, fungal growth, unhygienic storage and handling, and other violations.
