Bengaluru horror: Man asks Rs 40L from daughter, stabs her after she refuses

BENGALURU: A marriage proposal turned into a nightmare for an assistant professor after her father allegedly attacked her with a knife at her college on July 25. Police said the accused had been pressuring his daughter for money and feared losing her financial support after her marriage. The assault left the woman seriously injured, and she is still undergoing treatment.The injured woman, Lakshmi Durga N, is an assistant professor at a private engineering college in Rajanukunte on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The accused has been identified as Nagendra, 52, an autorickshaw driver.According to police, Nagendra had been looking for a groom for his daughter, and a prospective groom’s family had recently visited their home. However, he allegedly started demanding Rs 40 lakh from his daughter, claiming that he had spent money on her education and insisting that she continue supporting him financially even after marriage.Unable to cope with the alleged harassment, Lakshmi moved out of the family home with her mother and started living separately, leaving Nagendra alone at the house.On July 25, around 3 pm, Nagendra allegedly went to the college where Lakshmi worked, asked staff members about her whereabouts and learnt that she was attending a meeting in the principal’s office.Police said he waited for her to return to the staff room. When she arrived, he allegedly entered the room and attacked her with a knife, stabbing her in the abdomen before injuring her chest and neck in an alleged attempt to kill her. He fled the spot after the attack.College staff rushed the critically injured Lakshmi to a nearby private hospital, where she received treatment. Doctors said she survived the attack, is now out of danger and continues to undergo treatment.Rajanukunte Police registered a case under charges of attempt to murder. They traced and arrested Nagendra and initiated further legal proceedings. During interrogation, Nagendra allegedly confessed that he had demanded financial support from his daughter even after her marriage. Police said he allegedly decided to kill her after she refused to give him Rs 40 lakh.
