Bengaluru boulder accident: Quarry caretakers arrested

Bengaluru: Police probing the deaths of seven workers at a quarry in Tavarekere-Ramanagara in Bengaluru South arrested two quarry managers, N Lokesh, E Panduranga alias Pandu from Basaveshwara Crushers and Raju N from Udayashankar Crushers.Around 7am Thursday, a huge boulder from Basaveshwara Crushers came crashing down 40feet, mowing down the seven workers at Udayshankar Crushers to death. Five more workers sustained injuries. Soon after the tragedy, cops arrested Tirupati, the driver of the earthmover. The owners of the quarries, D Ananda Swamy and SR Udayshankar, are still elusive.Tirupati, who was also injured in the accident, is currently undergoing treatment at Rajarajeshwari Hospital, Mysuru Road. One of the workers is in critical condition, while the remaining are out of danger, police quoted doctors. “We produced the three accused persons before a court and took them into four days of police custody,” an officer said.
