Bard of Brahmaputra’s legacy lives on in RGU’s year-long tribute

Guwahati: A year of music, poetry and reflection at Assam Royal Global University culminated in a tribute to Bhupen Hazarika’s enduring legacy as the Bard of the Brahmaputra.Welcoming the gathering, Prof Amarjyoti Choudhury, professor emeritus and chair professor of the centre, recalled a personal interaction with Hazarika during his youth. He spoke about the creative challenge Hazarika represented and recalled asking him how he knew when something creative was about to emerge from within.Reflecting on the question decades later, Choudhury highlighted the extraordinary creative vision and restless imagination that shaped Hazarika’s life and work.The programme featured a poem recitation by Sattyakee D’com Bhuyan and a musical performance by singers Anirban Das, Mayukh Hazarika and Maitrayee Patar.The ceremony was attended by Assam Royal Global University chancellor AK Pansari, vice-chancellor Prof A K Buragohain, veteran singer Monisha Hazarika, artist Labu Senapati, faculty members, students and other guests.
