Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Police on Sunday rescued 18 children from Namsai district, who were illegally employed as domestic helps, and arrested one alleged facilitator in a major crackdown on a child trafficking syndicate, state officials said.The alleged facilitator has been identified as Rupali Padung.The operation followed a month-long investigation that had earlier led to the rescue of 16 children and arrest of three facilitators from Aalo, Mechuka, Pasighat, Naharlagun, Itanagar and Longding, bringing the total number of rescued kids to 34.The case is registered at Namsai police station on August 17 and is being investigated by deputy superintendent of police Kengo Dirchi under the supervision of superintendent of police Sangey Thinley.Police are working with the Namsai Child Welfare Committee and District Child Protection Unit to dismantle the entire syndicate by tracing its financial transactions, electronic footprints and transportation links. Parents, guardians and families with whom the children were allegedly placed are also being probed, police said.The rescued children have been placed under the care of the CWC and DCPU for counselling, rehabilitation and welfare support.
