Lucknow: An 18-year-old girl died by suicide at her home in a village under the Badosarai police station area of Barabanki after allegedly being harassed through repeated mobile calls and threats.Family members alleged the caller threatened to circulate obscene photographs of the girl and warned her of police action. Investigators are trying to determine whether the caller was a cybercriminal or someone known to her.According to police, the girl was found hanging inside a room of the house late at night. The family informed police, who reached the spot and began preliminary proceedings.Her brother told officers that after checking her phone, the family noticed multiple WhatsApp calls. He also reported that she had transferred Rs 15,000 via UPI to an account allegedly linked to a person through a local Jan Seva Kendra shortly before her death.The family said that on Sept 15, the girl’s brother answered one call and was threatened before the caller disconnected.Police have seized the mobile phone and are examining call records, WhatsApp activity, and transaction details. Barabanki SP Arpit Vijayvargiya said efforts were underway to identify the caller and verify the UPI and bank account linked to the transfer.
