Azim Premji varsity suspends student over Kashmir event row

Bengaluru: Azim Premji University (APU) has suspended a student for two years and issued written warnings to two others over a controversy surrounding a planned discussion this Feb on a contentious Kashmir issue that was cancelled after suspected ABVP activists stormed in and vandalised the venue. The suspended student is likely to seek a review. More than 40 students gathered on the campus Friday, demanding revocation of suspension.APU students criticised the constitution of a “Special Disciplinary Committee” by the university, asking they were being held responsible for violence allegedly carried out by outsiders.APU authorities stood by the decision. “Azim Premji University conducted a thorough inquiry. Following a careful review of the investigating committee’s recommendations, the university has taken disciplinary action against three students,” a university spokesperson said in a statement.
