Ghaziabad: An eight-month-old fight over a game of gilli-danda turned out to be fatal for a 24-year-old auto-rickshaw driver. He was allegedly stabbed in Vijay Vihar Colony on Tuesday.Police said nearly eight months ago, Aftab was playing gilli-danda with Nadeem, Shyam and their friends at Vijay Vihar Colony. He had a dispute with Nadeem, following which he had thrashed him. The tensions between the two remained unresolved.On Tuesday night, Jeevan Gate Colony resident Aftab had gone to the neighbourhood for some work, where he met Nadeem and Shyam. They started quarrelling again and it soon escalated into a violent confrontation. During the dispute, the men allegedly attacked Aftab with knives, stabbing him multiple times.Hearing the commotion, locals rushed towards the spot, prompting the attackers to flee. A seriously injured Aftab was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.Aftab’s family members have demanded strict action against those responsible for the murder. They alleged that Nadeem and Shyam previously threatened Aftab and were determined to settle old scores.Officers reached the scene after receiving information and initiated an investigation. Forensic and technical evidence is being collected, while teams have been formed to track down the suspects.Assistant commissioner of police (Ankur Vihar) Amardeep Maurya said preliminary investigations indicate that the murder was the result of a longstanding enmity between them. “The individuals accused of carrying out the murder are currently absconding. Police teams are conducting raids to locate and arrest them at the earliest,” he said.
