Mapusa: After a fatal accident that killed a 22-year-old scooterist, the Mapusa traffic cell has begun a drive against illegally parked heavy vehicles on the national highway and service roads in Colvale.Following a representation from the Colvale panchayat, traffic officials registered six cases against heavy vehicles found violating parking rules. Authorities also carried out an awareness campaign for truck drivers and warehouse operators, focusing on dangerous roadside parking and road safety.The action follows a crash near the Colvale industrial estate on Monday night. Ravish Tari, 22, of St Estevam died and pillion rider Laxman Bhosle, 18, of Aldona was critically injured when their scooter rammed into a parked goods carrier at around 11.30pm on Monday.Police stated that the tempo, driven by Shivaji Khemana Tejam, 37, was parked in a no-parking zone without any warning signs or indicators visible in the dark. Following a complaint by ASI Anil Pilgaonkar, PSI Dattaraj Rane registered an FIR against the driver under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
