Guwahati: Drone-powered postal services will soon be introduced in Assam to connect rural and remote areas with eco-friendly operations, official sources said on Monday.The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) posted on its official X handle: “A new era of logistics is taking flight in Assam. Drone-powered postal services will connect remote regions faster than ever, reducing delivery times from hours to minutes.”“With real-time tracking and eco-friendly operations,” it added.According to the post, delivery time is expected to shrink from two hours to seven minutes, improving connectivity to rural parts of the state.The CMO did not specify a launch date or name the operator for the Assam rollout.On June 18, India Post signed an agreement with Skye Air Mobility Private Limited to operate drone flights carrying Branch office mail bags between account offices and branch post offices across Himachal Pradesh and Assam.The deployment will connect 110 locations in Himachal Pradesh and 40 locations in Assam. The drones are capable of carrying payloads of upto 10 kg.
