Guwahati: In a major push towards competency-based education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB), in collaboration with PARAKH (National Assessment Centre), NCERT, organised a four-day residential workshop in Guwahati to train teachers to develop competency-based question banks using digital tools.Titled “PARAKH Taxonomy and Development of Competency-Based Question Bank for ITMS,” the workshop aimed to strengthen the assessment framework by familiarising teachers involved in district-level internal examinations with competency-based learning and the digitised generation of questions.The initiative seeks to standardise assessment practices nationwide, as envisioned under NEP 2020.Addressing the programme, ASSEB chairperson Ramesh Chand Jain stressed the growing importance of competency-based learning and underscored the need to prepare students with essential 21st-century skills. The workshop was inaugurated virtually by Prof Indrani Bhaduri, CEO of PARAKH, NCERT, who highlighted the role of the ITMS portal in transforming assessment processes.The training brought together 100 teachers selected from all 35 districts of Assam. Participants represented a wide range of subjects, including Accountancy, Business Studies, Political Science, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Assamese, English, Bengali, Bodo, Science and Social Science.“The workshop focused on the development of competency-based questions and assessment practices,” ASSEB secretary Naranarayan Nath said. Experts from PARAKH and NCERT, along with ASSEB master trainers, participated in the event.The workshop concluded with a valedictory function where ASSEB vice-chairperson Rukma Gohain Barua addressed the participants and shared suggestions on strengthening assessment reforms and improving the quality of school education in the state.
