Gurgaon: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted at Tigaon police station for allegedly demanding Rs 2 lakh from a Delhi man by threatening to implicate him in a rape case.The accused, ASI Hidayat Khan, was arrested late on Saturday night after allegedly accepting the first instalment of Rs 20,000 from the complainant, Rohit, a resident of Gandhi Camp-2 in Shrinivaspuri, Delhi. ACB laid a trap at the police station after verifying Rohit’s complaint.The matter stemmed from a dispute involving Rohit and an adult woman from Deeg district in Rajasthan, with whom he was in a live-in relationship. The two were staying at a relative’s house in Tigaon.According to the complaint, the woman’s family reached the house on Sept 10 and allegedly assaulted the couple before informing police. The woman reportedly told police that she did not want to return with her family. Rohit alleged that despite this, Khan handed her over to her relatives.He further alleged that Khan threatened to implicate him and one of his relatives in a rape case unless they paid Rs 2 lakh. Rohit had already paid Rs 5,000 to the ASI, according to the complaint.The alleged demand was later reduced to Rs 1 lakh, to be paid in three instalments over a week. The first payment was fixed for Saturday night.Rohit then approached ACB, which verified the allegations and planned the trap. Around 11pm, he reached Tigaon police station with the money. Khan allegedly called him inside and accepted the cash, following which ACB officials intervened and arrested him. The Rs 20,000 was recovered from him.A case has been registered against Khan under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.ACB is investigating the alleged bribe demand as well as the circumstances in which the woman was handed over to her family.
