New Delhi: Ahead of the 2026 admission cycle, Delhi University has started strengthening anti-ragging mechanisms to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for freshers.The university has directed all colleges, departments and hostels to complete anti-ragging arrangements by July 28, including the formation of committees and squads. It will also set up two joint control rooms. Students and their parents or guardians will be required to submit anti-ragging undertakings. The new academic session will begin on Tuesday.The measures were finalised during an online meeting of the university proctor with college principals, heads of departments, hostel authorities, DUSU office-bearers and Delhi Police officers. Colleges, departments and hostels have been instructed to strictly enforce anti-ragging regulations, DU officials said.The university will have separate joint control rooms at the North and South campuses from July 28 to Aug 7. Bilingual anti-ragging banners and posters will be displayed at strategic locations across campuses, while colleges and hostels have been directed to prominently display anti-ragging rules and restrict the entry of outsiders.Women cops in plain clothes are likely to be deployed too. Police pickets will be stationed outside every college, with special assistance for women’s colleges, while regular patrolling will continue to ensure prompt action in case of any untoward incident. Officials also advised the students opting for paying guest accommodation to ensure that their accommodation is police-verified.The university has directed colleges to submit weekly reports on compliance with anti-ragging measures during the first three months of the academic session, followed by monthly reports thereafter. Officials reiterated that incidents of ragging would invite strict disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion.
