Another UP bureaucrat quits job to take political plunge

Lucknow: Days after IAS officer Divya Mittal quit service and announced her decision to form her own political party, another bureaucrat from UP has set her sights on a political career. Anupama Saroj Singh, deputy commissioner of GST, has tendered her resignation to govt which has been accepted. In a video message posted on social media, Anupama said she wanted to become the voice of the people but had realised that it was not possible while she remained in service.Anupama comes from a political family. She is the daughter of former MP Saroj Singh and the wife of Samajwadi Party spokesperson Anurag Bhadauria. While she has given no indication of which party she might join or how her public life would unfold, Anupama said she had been contemplating leaving govt service for the past 10 years. However, circumstances had now aligned in a way that allowed her to act on her decision. In the video message, Singh said her intention was not to create any controversy with the announcement. “I have finally decided to step into public life, and it has been a difficult decision. While in the administration, I had the opportunity to observe people’s problems from close quarters. I also felt that there is a limit to what one can do while in government service,” she said.Singh said it was now time for her not just to ask for change but to become the change she was seeking. She also spoke about the importance of having more women in public life, saying they were the foundation of a more sensible and sensitive society. She also mentioned her music career, through which she is known as Anupama Raag, saying her experience in the music industry had helped her become more sensitive to people’s struggles, hopes and aspirations.
