Ahmedabad: Paneer that laboratory tests identified as analogue, cooking oil that exceeded the permissible TPC limit, and a bakery allegedly using a fake licence number came under AMC’s scanner on Tuesday. The civic body sealed six units during a food safety crackdown across Ahmedabad.Three eateries and food units were sealed after laboratory tests found that paneer samples collected from them were actually analogue paneer, days after Gujarat govt banned its production and sale across the state.Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s health and food department collected paneer samples from 22 units following the ban imposed on Aug 6. Reports received on Tuesday found that samples from HL Frankie in Navrangpura, Jai Somnath Tea Stall in the Geeta Mandir area and Delhi 6 Paratha Point in Navrangpura contained analogue paneer. Officials said unhygienic conditions were also found at all three establishments, which were subsequently sealed.In a separate case, a sample of MAPEE-brand turmeric powder collected from Janki Enterprise at Gajanand Industrial Park in Vatva was declared substandard because it contained excessive starch.Officials subsequently inspected the firm’s repacking facility in Sardarnagar and seized 548kg of turmeric, chilli and coriander powders valued at Rs 2.77 lakh. The facility was sealed.AMC also tested cooking oil being used at a KFC outlet operated by Sapphire Foods India Pvt Ltd at Pushpak Complex, near Prahladnagar Garden in Sarkhej ward. The oil recorded a total polar compounds (TPC) reading of 29.5, which officials said was above the permissible limit. The outlet was sealed.At Asian Bakery in Danilimda, officials alleged that the operator did not have a valid food safety licence and had printed a fake licence number on food packets. The inspection team also reported a large number of flies and insects in the production area, besides poor sanitation.The bakery had neither conducted pest-control treatment nor obtained the certificate required under Schedule 4 of the applicable food-safety regulations, according to AMC. The unit was sealed.Officials placed 5,700kg of gram flour and sugar, collectively valued at Rs 1.95 lakh, on hold. They also seized 220kg of prepared bread dough worth Rs 16,000.
