Amazon engineer leaves Rs 46 lakh package to join Army, set to be commissioned at OTA Gaya

LUCKNOW: Lucknow’s Shardendu Tiwari, a second-generation soldier, is all set to be commissioned into the Army at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Gaya, on Saturday, marking the culmination of his journey from the corporate world to military service.Born into a military family, Shardendu drew inspiration from his father, a veteran of the Army Service Corps, who served for 36 years before retiring as an Honorary Captain. Educated at Kendriya Vidyalaya and Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, Shardendu built a successful career in the technology sector and worked as a cloud engineer at Amazon, drawing an annual package of around Rs 46 lakh. He was also selected by global aerospace giant Airbus, opening the door to a promising corporate future.“However, despite professional success and lucrative opportunities, Shardendu chose to follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue a career in the armed forces. Leaving behind a high-paying corporate career, he opted for the olive-green uniform and began training at OTA Gaya,” said the defence spokesperson.His performance during training at OTA Gaya earned him the appointment of Senior Under Officer (SUO), one of the highest cadet appointments at the academy and a recognition of his exceptional leadership qualities.An avid mountain trekking enthusiast, Shardendu credits perseverance and a strong sense of purpose for his success.
