Ahmedabad: A 57-year-old resident of Sola was allegedly cheated of Rs 11 lakh after being promised a flat in a residential scheme near Sola bridge.According to a complaint filed with Sola Police on Saturday, the woman was approached by a female acquaintance who told her about affordable flats being offered near a party plot on Science City Road. The complainant said the next day, the woman and a man from Bopal, who introduced himself as a builder, visited her home and showed her a brochure of the proposed housing scheme. The complainant stated that she agreed to buy a flat and hence the next day, the woman and a man claiming to be a builder visited her home and presented a brochure of the project, assuring that flats were available at a competitive price.The complainant stated she was taken to the site on Science City Road and was shown a flat on an upper floor of the building under construction.

She agreed to buy the flat for Rs 25 lakh and allegedly paid Rs 1 lakh in cash as an initial payment at her residence.She stated that she later arranged more funds by breaking a fixed deposit and made further cash payments, taking the total amount paid to Rs 11 lakh. The payments were made at her home in March 2024 in the presence of family members and others.The complainant said she was promised possession of the flat within six months, but the flat was not handed over. She alleged that the accused began avoiding commitments.She later came to know of similar allegations from others, who claimed that money had been collected from people under such schemes but they were never given the possession of the houses. The woman then approached Sola Police and filed a complaint against the Bopal resident.
