CBI arrests Prasar Bharati engineer in bribery case

Chandigarh: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Prasar Bharati executive engineer (XEN) Rai Singh for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a contractor in Chandigarh late Friday night.Officials said the officer was caught red‑handed during a trap operation in Sector 37 after he allegedly demanded illegal gratification to clear a pending bill.According to investigators, the contractor had approached the agency with a complaint that the executive engineer sought Rs 30,000 to process payment for completed work.After verifying the allegations, the CBI registered the case and laid a trap. Singh was apprehended while allegedly receiving the bribe amount and taken into custody for questioning.

The accused is scheduled to be produced before the CBI special court on Saturday, where the agency will seek his remand for further investigation.This marks the second major anti‑corruption action in Chandigarh in two days. Earlier, CBI arrested Shubham Tyagi, an enforcement officer of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), for allegedly demanding illegal gratification in return for performing official duties.Officials said the back‑to‑back arrests underscore the agency’s intensified crackdown on corruption involving public servants. Investigators are now examining the circumstances of the Prasar Bharati case and will verify if similar complaints exist against the accused officer.The investigation is ongoing.
