Ahmedabad: Heavy rain and adverse weather conditions disrupted flight operations at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport on Thursday, delaying 13 flights, while two services on the Ahmedabad-Diu route were cancelled.Of the 13 affected services, three were on the Mumbai route, two each on the Dehradun and Delhi routes, and one each on the Dubai, Keshod, London, Goa, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Patna routes. Star Air cancelled its Ahmedabad-Diu and Diu-Ahmedabad flights due to bad weather conditions at Diu.Around 7pm, poor visibility forced the diversion of five Ahmedabad-bound flights. IndiGo’s Delhi-Ahmedabad flight and Dehradun-Ahmedabad flight were diverted to Indore, while Nashik-Ahmedabad flight was diverted to Hirasar airport in Rajkot. Air India’s Mumbai-Ahmedabad flight was diverted to Jaipur, while IndiGo’s Kolkata-Ahmedabad flight was diverted to Surat.Amid the weather disruption and a forecast for heavy rain, Ahmedabad airport issued an advisory asking passengers to check their flight status with their respective airlines before leaving for the airport.Travellers were advised to account for possible road delays due to the weather, besides allowing adequate time for security checks and other airport procedures. “Please stay updated and plan your travel accordingly,” the airport said.The advisory came as heavy rain affected parts of Ahmedabad and other areas of Gujarat, disrupting transport services.
