Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) health and food department sealed 28 food business units across the city in Sept for violations of food safety regulations, including operating without licences, maintaining unhygienic conditions and failing food quality tests.During inspections and raids, the department collected 612 food samples from various establishments. Of these, 22 samples were declared substandard. Officials also seized 9,334kg of food items, issued notices to 404 units, and destroyed 1,863kg of inedible food.Among the samples declared substandard were palmolein oil from Aarav Kirana Stores in Gomtipur; two samples of ginger-garlic paste from Mundra Corporation in Odhav; reused cooking oil from Rajasthan Dalwada in Isanpur; sweet chutney from MS Food Products in Vatva; red gravy from Shree Khodal Hotel in Sarkhej; garlic powder from Aroma Enterprise in Naranpura; veg puff from Rajwadi Tea Stall in Asarwa; sambhar from Rajubhai Dhosawala in Sardarnagar; and medium-fat paneer from Madhur Dairy Parlour in Ghatlodia.AMC officials said the sealing action against 28 units was carried out under provisions of the Food Safety Act. The violations ranged from operating without a food licence to poor hygiene standards and failure of food samples during testing.
