Ahmedabad gets sixth Kendriya Vidyalaya as KVS adds Vastral school

Ahmedabad: The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has operationalised 72 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across states and Union territories for the 2026-27 academic year, including one in Ahmedabad’s Vastral area. With the new school, the number of Kendriya Vidyalayas in Gujarat has risen to 49.According to KVS, 85 new KVs were approved in 2024 and another 57 in 2025. With the addition of 72 schools this year, the total number of Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country has reached 1,360.The newly approved Vastral school takes Ahmedabad’s KV count to six. The city’s existing KVs are located at MR Campus Shahibaug, Cantonment, Vastrapur Sector-30, Sabarmati Railway Colony and ONGC Chandkheda. Another KV in the district is located in Viramgam.Of the 72 new schools, eight are in Andhra Pradesh, two in Assam, seven in Bihar, three in Chhattisgarh, one in Gujarat, one each in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, nine in Jammu & Kashmir, three in Jharkhand, four in Karnataka, seven in Madhya Pradesh, three in Maharashtra, three in Odisha, seven in Rajasthan, two each in Tamil Nadu and Telangana, one in Tripura, five in Uttar Pradesh and two in Uttarakhand.
