Ahmedabad: A strong monsoon trough associated with a low-pressure area near Gujarat brought light to moderate showers to several parts of the state. In Ahmedabad city, areas in both the eastern and western parts experienced drizzle in the morning and afternoon. From Wednesday onwards, rain intensity in the city and state is likely to reduce significantly.With 87mm of rainfall in 24 hours ending at 6am on Monday, the city’s rain tally reached 768mm against the season’s normal of 826mm, or 93% of the season’s total rainfall. Monday’s rainfall was about 10% of the season’s total.India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast indicated cloudy skies with light to moderate rain on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the maximum temperature was 31.2 °C, 2.4 degrees lower than normal. The minimum temperature of 24.9°C was 0.1 degrees lower than normal. The relative humidity (RH) was 92% at 8.30am and fell to 70% at 5.30pm on Tuesday.Parts of Kutch and Saurashtra experienced moderate to heavy rain on Tuesday.From Wednesday onwards, some regions of the state may experience light to moderate showers.Till 6pm in Kutch, Mandvi recorded 177mm of rain, followed by Abdasa (54mm), Mundra (40mm), Nakhatrana (33mm) and Bhuj (32mm). In all, 95 talukas received 1mm or more rain. The rain spell has given much-needed respite to the most affected districts, where the season’s rainfall is well below normal.According to state govt data, Narmada dam is at 96% of its total storage capacity as of Tuesday morning, while 206 other water reservoirs are at 69% capacity. However, 76 of those 206 reservoirs are below 25% capacity.
