Ahmedabad: Adani Total Gas Ltd (ATGL) has increased the retail price of compressed natural gas (CNG) by Rs 4 per kg in Gujarat, taking the rate from Rs 90.02 to Rs 94.02 per kg with effect from Aug 1. This is the second CNG price hike by the company in less than two weeks.ATGL had earlier raised the price by Rs 2 per kg on July 19, when the rate increased from Rs 88.02 to Rs 90.02 per kg. With the latest revision, CNG prices have gone up by a total of Rs 6 per kg within 12 days.The fresh hike has sparked concern among autorickshaw and taxi drivers, who said rising fuel costs were squeezing their earnings and making daily operations increasingly challenging. They also pointed out that the repeated increases were narrowing CNG’s cost advantage over conventional fuels.Explaining the revision, an ATGL spokesperson said the increase was necessitated by a sharp rise in natural gas procurement costs. The company attributed the higher costs to reduced availability of domestic gas, supply curtailments and a surge in global gas prices amid geopolitical tensions.“Despite these challenges, ATGL continues to make every effort to minimise the impact on consumers while ensuring uninterrupted supply of CNG, which remains an economical and environmentally friendly fuel option,” the spokesperson said.
