Mumbai: The state govt’s uniform academic calendar for all public universities across the state will come into effect from the current academic year. The academic calendar recommends the first term for traditional courses to end between Nov 15 and Dec 15, and the second term to conclude by May 15. Separate calendars have been drafted for different faculties, including engineering, law and pharmacy, as well as traditional courses. The calendar also lays down timelines for the declaration of examination results and proposes a standardised mechanism for the revaluation of answer sheets, in accordance with the respective universities’ regulations. The move is aimed at bringing uniformity in the academic and examination schedules of universities across the state, ensuring parity in the number of teaching days and also making it easier for students who move between universities for higher education. The entire schedule is expected to be uploaded by universities across the state in the coming days. For traditional courses such as arts, commerce and science, the first term will begin between June 10 and July 1, with examinations scheduled between Oct and Nov. The second term will commence between Nov 20 and Jan 5, with examinations to be conducted between March 20 and May 15, 2027. Each term is expected to have 90 instructional days, spread over 13 to 15 weeks. For professional courses such as engineering, pharmacy, architecture, law and management, the first term will begin between June and July, with examinations scheduled between Oct and Dec. The second term will start between Nov and Dec, with examinations scheduled between March and May. A calendar for the first-year professional courses, however, will be subject to the schedule of the state’s CET cell, said a govt official. To ensure strict adherence to the academic calendar, the responsibility for meeting admission deadlines and academic session timelines rests with the registrar, in coordination with the vice-chancellor and pro-vice-chancellor. Meanwhile, the responsibility for conducting examinations, declaring results within the stipulated timeline and completing the revaluation process lies with the director, board of exams and evaluations, along with the VC and PVC. The uniform calendar was drafted by the state’s apex advisory and regulatory body, Maharashtra State Academic and Research Council (MahaSARC), with inputs from vice-chancellors of all universities, added the official.Universities are expected to announce the results within 30 days of the last examination, keeping the application window for revaluation open for 15 days, providing photocopies of answer sheets within 15 days of application and completing the revaluation process within 30 days of the initial result declaration.
