Surat: A three-year-old girl abducted from beneath a bridge in Kapodra on the night of April 20 was rescued safely from Madhya Pradesh, though the kidnapper managed to flee after abandoning the child.Surat crime branch traced the accused using technical surveillance and CCTV footage that showed him boarding a train bound for Madhya Pradesh. Acting on the lead, a team of around 70 crime branch personnel tracked the suspect to Bajna village, about 50 km from Ratlam.DCP (Crime) Bhavesh Rojiya said investigators learned that the accused had boarded the Daund–Indore Express. “Multiple teams under inspectors JG Patel, JN Goswami and Hilpa Sindha, along with four sub-inspectors, were deployed across 10 railway stations between Surat and Indore to track the suspect. Eventually, one team confirmed that the accused was seen at Ratlam railway station,” he said.CCTV footage from Ratlam showed the man leaving the station in a tempo and later boarding a bus about 5 km away.“Using the bus number, we traced the driver and showed him the CCTV image of the accused with the child. He told us that the man got down at Bajna,” Rojiya said.Police later found the girl with a woman vegetable vendor, who told them that the child had been abandoned and she had informed the local police.The girl was found unhurt, bringing relief to the investigators, who have launched a search to trace the accused.Police said the child’s mother had recently come to Surat from Saurashtra after a dispute with her husband and was sleeping beneath the bridge with a friend when the child was abducted.
