The Delhi Police on Wednesday rejected as “totally false” the allegations that its personnel forcibly entered the Congress headquarters here and beat up protesting party workers and leaders.

A delegation of top Congress leaders was escorted by the Delhi Police to meet the Lieutenant Governor after the party launched a protest outside his residence on Thursday. The party was demanding action against “police highhandedness” displayed at its headquarters on Wednesday. Mayhem broke out on Thursday afternoon, with Congress leaders climbing over barricades and police deploying water cannons to disperse the protestors. This comes a day after the party alleged that Delhi Police officials forced their way into the headquarters and lathi charged leaders, who were protesting the questioning of Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an alleged money laundering case.

A day after Sachin Pilot was detained by the Delhi Police outside the AICC Headquarters, the Congress leader thanked his supporters for standing by him, but urged them to remain peaceful. “We were detained y’day, police entered AICC office & did lathi-charge; whole country is watching… thanks for support but be peaceful,” Pilot said outside his residence in New Delhi.

The Delhi Police on Wednesday rejected as “totally false” the allegations that its personnel forcibly entered the Congress headquarters here and beat up protesting party workers and leaders.
