A cold wave will continue today in Delhi, with a minimum temperature likely around 4°C.

The Central Pollution Control Board reported that on Monday morning, the hourly air quality index in Delhi was 332 at 7 a.m.

According to the weather forecast provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a dense fog covered the national capital on Monday morning as the city battles cold wave conditions with the minimum temperature likely to fall to 4 degrees Celsius.

Monday’s high temperature is likely to remain around 19 degrees Celsius.

Sunday’s minimum temperature was 5.3 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees below normal. The maximum temperature was 16.2 degrees Celsius, which is five degrees below normal for this time of year and the lowest so far this year. Both of these temperatures were three degrees below normal.

In the meantime, Delhi’s air quality remained in the extremely unfortunate classification on Monday morning. The Central Pollution Control Board reported that the hourly air quality index (AQI) was 332 at seven in the morning.

An AQI of 0 to 50 is considered “good,” 51 to 100 is “satisfactory,” 101 to 200 is “moderate,” 201 to 300 is “poor,” 301 to 400 is “very poor,” and 401 to 500 is “severe.”

“Fine particles (size 2.5 micrometers) contribute 52% to PM10,” the government’s monitoring agency, System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research, stated on Sunday. Surface wind speed (8 to 14 km/hr) and temperature (maximum 27-26 degrees Celsius, minimum 8-7 degrees Celsius) are likely to cause a slight increase in the AQI over the next three days. The likely height of the mixing layer will be 1 km, which will assist in reducing pollutants. Due to the tendency for surface meteorological parameters to remain nearly unchanged, the AQI is likely to remain within “moderate” for the next three days.”
