Party office-bearer fires in air after dispute at construction site, detained

Pune: An office-bearer of a political party allegedly fired a bullet from his licensed pistol following a heated argument at a construction site along Sus-Nande Road in the early hours of Thursday.A Bavdhan police team led by senior inspector Arvind Pawar detained him and his aide under sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act. Pawar said the accused had a dispute over a plot of land along Sus-Nande Road. When the landowner started construction on the plot, the accused objected to it.“The accused and his aide reached the site around 12.45am on Thursday and started arguing with two security guards after noticing wooden material there,” Pawar said. He said a heated argument between the accused and the guards turned into a physical altercation. The accused then took out his pistol and fired a round in the air. No one was injured.“We have seized the firearm from the accused. He had obtained the firearm licence from the Pune city police,” Pawar said.
