Dibrugahr: Police arrested a Grade IV employee of Sankar Madhav High School in Nogabat, Borholla, Jorhat, on Tuesday night after recovering a .22 pistol and 23 live cartridges from his rented house, officials said.Acting on specific intelligence, a police team led by Jorhat additional superintendent of police (Crime) Abhishek Yadav raided the rented residence of Bijoy Krishna Bora and seized the weapon and ammunition, police said. Bora, a Grade IV staff member at the school, was taken into custody and brought to Borholla Police Station, where a case was registered.“Based on credible information, we recovered a .22 pistol and 23 live rounds from Bora’s rented accommodation. He is currently under interrogation, and we are probing the supply chain to determine who supplied the weapon and the motive for procuring it,” additional SP Yadav said.During initial questioning, Bora allegedly told police he bought the pistol from a person in the Bhandari area of Wokha district in Nagaland, and paid Rs 50,000 for the firearm, investigating officers said.“In his preliminary statement, Bora said he purchased the pistol from a Naga person in Wokha for Rs 50,000. We are verifying this claim and trying to trace the seller,” an investigating officer said.Police are investigating why a school employee sought to acquire an illegal firearm and whether it was intended for personal use, resale, or any other purpose.
