Panchkula: A district-level anti-encroachment committee has ordered a targeted enforcement campaign to curb illegal construction, focusing immediate actions along controlled areas, national highways, and designated 30-meter restricted zones. DC Satpal Sharma directed executive engineers from the NHAI and the PWD to identify violations on scheduled roads, execute prompt clearance actions, and submit an official progress report before the panel’s next assembly.To maintain public land integrity, the DC mandated a continuous field campaign across the district and instructed departments to ensure that removed encroachments do not recur. The committee reviewed recent enforcement actions executed by the PWD, Panchkula MC and Kalka MC under the Periphery Control Act and the Punjab Scheduled Roads and Controlled Areas Act.District town planner Babita Gupta reported that four demolition drives were conducted during May 2026. Under these campaigns, civic teams levelled road networks and damp-proof course structures across nine illegal colonies in the revenue estates of Kona, Lahrondi, Pargiyan, Kherawali, Kajampur, Raipurrani, and Bataud. Additionally, a newly detected unauthorised colony was identified within the urban area of Panchkula, and formal notices have been issued against it.Traders given one-week deadlineIn a parallel civic enforcement drive, Kalka SDM Sanyam Garg gave market associations in Kalka and Pinjore towns a strict one-week ultimatum to clear all forms of illegal encroachment from govt land. The directive followed an official meeting regarding pending merchant demands, which covered local sanitation, door-to-door waste collection, drinking water facilities, parking arrangements, and public toilet availability.Following the meeting, the SDM conducted a field inspection stretching from Kalka market to Pinjore market and along Nalagarh Road to order the immediate removal of illegal roadside structures. The SDM instructed municipal teams to clean, repair, and cover all open drainage lines before the monsoon season to prevent public accidents, while the PWD subdivision officer was directed to clear green belts of all illegal squatters.To protect public safety before the seasonal rains, the Kalka SDM ordered the immediate filling of road potholes and speedy completion of necessary structural repairs. The Kalka MC was directed to ensure the regular clearing of roadside garbage heaps and implement permanent disposal solutions, while the Police Department was instructed to coordinate with all relevant civic branches to enforce these orders.
