Pathankot teen who died in New York accident cremated

Pathankot: The mortal remains of 18-year-old Romanch Mahajan, who died in a horse-carriage accident in New York’s Central Park, were cremated in Pathankot on Monday amid scenes of grief.A large number of residents, local leaders and representatives of social, religious and business organisations attended the last rites and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.Romanch’s body arrived at Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport late on Sunday and was brought to his hometown for cremation.A resident of Indira Colony, Romanch had recently secured admission to a university in Jaipur after scoring more than 90% marks in Class XII.According to family members, he had travelled to the US with his parents and younger brother on a vacation and was also scheduled to meet his sister, who lives there.His grandfather, Suresh Mahajan, said the family was on a horse-drawn carriage ride inside Central Park when the horse suddenly panicked and bolted near the Cherry Hill area. The carriage then collided with another buggy near a restaurant, Tavern on the Green, and overturned.In an emotional moment during the funeral, Romanch’s mother performed the final rites as family members and mourners bid farewell to the teenager.
