Suspended IAS officer, panchayat official sent to judicial custody in bank fraud case

Chandigarh: A special CBI court in Panchkula on Monday remanded suspended IAS officer Ram Kumar Singh and deputy superintendent (development and panchayats) Prince Sharma to judicial custody in connection with the alleged embezzlement of over Rs 79.6 crore in the IDFC First Bank-AU Small Finance Bank fraud case.The two were arrested by the CBI on Friday for their alleged role in the diversion of funds from government departments.While producing the accused before the court, the CBI said both had been confronted and questioned about their alleged role in the misappropriation of funds, the modus operandi adopted in the fraud and the benefits allegedly received from the main accused, including Rishav Rishi, Abhay and Vikram Wadhwa.According to sources, Singh was questioned on a 20-point questionnaire and asked to explain the issuance of cheques despite the existence of a system for transferring funds through official communications.Prince Sharma was allegedly confronted over bank alert messages received on his mobile phone linked to accounts of the Panchkula Municipal Corporation and the Development and Panchayats Department.The alleged fraud involves the embezzlement of more than Rs 79.6 crore out of Rs 593 crore parked by various government departments with the two banks.
