Dhubri launches diarrhoea prevention drive amid monsoon spike; campaign till July 31

Dhubri: Dhubri district has launched the ‘Diarrhoea Prevention Campaign 2026’ to cover 17,7,279 children below five years, with the programme running till July 31.The drive comes amid rising diarrhoeal cases during the rainy season, prompting the health department to intensify preventive measures, particularly in sandbar, remote and border villages. The awareness programme is being launched and monitored by the Dhubri District Health Society, which will conduct campaigns in every block across the district.A source in the health society said the campaign will focus on preventing diarrhoea among children by promoting health guidelines, hygiene and sanitation practices, and precautions around food consumption during rainy and extremely warm weather. The source said a special awareness drive will be conducted involving Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers and medical college paramedics, while the social welfare, education and public health engineering departments will provide technical support.Dhubri District Media Expert of National Health Mission, Moyez Uddin Ahmed told TOI that ASHA workers will go door-to-door to distribute ORS (Oral Dehydration Solution) packets to families with children below five years.“Since diarrhoea is a waterborne disease, the awareness campaign will stress on consuming clean and boiled water”, Ahmed added.
