Aizawl: Mizoram’s excise and narcotics department officials have seized 591 grams of heroin and 9,786 methamphetamine tablets (950 grams) at three different locations. Six people, including a Myanmarese national and a man from Manipur, have been arrested.On Tuesday evening, 241 grams of heroin in 20 packages known as ‘Hawngs’ was seized in Tuikual South, Aizawl. Gin Khan Sang (28) of Churachandpur was arrested for the possession of the contraband, suspected to be smuggled from Manipur, state excise & narcotics department spokesperson Peter Zohmingthanga said.Later that night, officials seized 350 grams of heroin from Khatla in Aizawl from the possession of three persons — Vanlallianzauva (33) of Haiheng village, Falam district, Chin state of Myanmar; KC Lalrintluanga (38) of Ramhlun South, Aizawl; and Lalhmangaihzuali (30) of Bawngkawn Brigade Veng, Aizawl. A truck, reportedly used for transportation of the contraband was also detained., Zohmingthanga said.In another incident, the state excise & narcotics department officials along with personnel of the 34th battalion of the Assam Rifles in a joint operation seized 9,786 methamphetamine tablets (950 grams) at Tlangsam village in Champhai district on Tuesday night. Lalramnghaka (30) and Zosangzuala (38), both residents of Champhai town, were arrested.The suspects were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
