4 of Bihar family among 5 killed as car hits truck on Purvanchal e-way in Azamgarh

Varanasi: At least five people, including a couple and their two children from Siwan district in Bihar, were killed after their car rammed into a speeding truck from behind on the Purvanchal Expressway under Kandharpur police station limits in Azamgarh district on Saturday.Azamgarh SP Anil Kumar said the accident occurred around 2:30 pm near mile marker 238 on the expressway, on the Ghazipur–Lucknow route, when a high-speed car collided with a truck from behind. All five occupants of the car died on the spot.The deceased have been identified as Manish Kumar Shrivastava (43), his wife Kanchan Devi (40), and their daughters Aastha Kumari (16) and Aditi (11). The identity of the driver, believed to be around 20 years old, is yet to be confirmed. All the victims were residents of Gayaspur village under Siswan police station in Siwan and were travelling from Siwan to Faridabad in Haryana.Officials said that after receiving information about the accident, family members of the victims left for Azamgarh.On receiving information, police from Kandharapur station, CO (City) Shubham Todi, the fire brigade, and an ambulance rushed to the spot. After sustained efforts, police and rescue teams cut open the mangled vehicle to extricate those trapped inside. The injured were taken to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead.Azamgarh ASP (Traffic) Pankaj Kumar Srivastava said traffic on the expressway was restored after the damaged vehicles were removed.
