Guwahati: Residents of West Kamakhya Colony are organising a cleanliness competition to encourage better civic habits and promote shared responsibility for keeping the neighbourhood clean and hygienic. The initiative aims to bring residents together and encourage proper waste disposal and regular upkeep of residential areas.“This competition encourages people to pay attention to the cleanliness of their surroundings, including proper waste disposal and the upkeep of their residential areas. Through the initiative, we are hoping to make cleanliness a collective effort rather than leaving the responsibility to the municipal workers alone,” said Uttam Seal, secretary of the puja committee. The competition is also intended to raise awareness about responsible waste management and highlight the role individuals can play in keeping the locality free of litter.“Residents are being encouraged to take greater ownership of their surroundings and adopt simple habits that can make a difference to the neighbourhood,” Seal added.Organisers said community-led initiatives could strengthen awareness of civic responsibilities and encourage residents to work together to maintain a cleaner environment.By involving residents directly, the competition seeks to make cleanliness an everyday practice and inspire greater participation in the upkeep of public spaces.
