Unseen work of mothers gets a festive spotlight at West Kamakhya Colony

Guwahati: West Kamakhya Colony has chosen motherhood as the central theme for its Durga Puja pandal this year, seeking to celebrate the love, care and sacrifices of mothers.Moving away from elaborate concepts, the organisers have opted for a theme with personal meaning across generations. Through the pandal, the committee hopes to highlight the role mothers play in shaping their children’s lives and supporting them through different stages.“The theme draws attention to the everyday efforts of mothers, whose contributions often go unnoticed amid the demands of family life. From caring for children to standing by them during difficult times, a mother’s presence is often seen as a source of comfort, strength and security,” said Uttam Seal, the committee’s pandal secretary. The 50-foot pandal took around one and a half months to complete. Built mainly with cloth and bamboo, it features images and a statue of a woman representing motherhood. The pandal has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 12 lakh and will open to visitors on the sixth day of the festival.Local artists from Assam have been engaged for the project, with around 10-15 people working on the final preparations. Their efforts, organisers said, reflected the creativity and dedication behind the festive installation. The committee will also organise several competitions for colony residents, giving them an opportunity to participate, showcase their talents and celebrate together.Prasad will be distributed among devotees during the festivities. Committee members said the gesture was intended to promote devotion, togetherness and community participation during the festival.
