Sawant says ready for national role, vows BJP win in 2027

Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said he would be happy to move to Delhi if BJP assigned him a role in the national capital, adding that he would not be unhappy about the move, unlike his predecessor Manohar Parrikar.“Whatever party tells me, I’ll follow. If the party tells me to move to Delhi, I will not be unhappy. I am always ready to serve the people of the country, and whatever role the party gives me, I’ll be happy,” Sawant said.He said his priority was to ensure BJP won the 2027 assembly elections. and the party would decide who would lead it into the polls, while his responsibility was to work towards its victory.Sawant said people in Goa were joining BJP after realising that they had no political future in Congress. “They don’t see a future in Congress. In the next 25 years, there will be no change in govt. Overall development and differences in ideology are reasons to leave Congress and join BJP,” he said.Sawant said former art and culture minister Govind Gaude was dropped from the cabinet not because he had levelled corruption allegations against govt, but because the chief minister had promised an MLA from the Scheduled Tribe community a place in the cabinet.On tourism, the CM said govt was studying negative social media campaigns targeting Goa to divert tourists to international destinations. “Some people target Goa tourism to divert tourists to other international destinations. Govt is studying the matter by roping in central agencies,” he said.Sawant said Goa was not dependent solely on domestic tourism, adding that several charter flights were arriving in the state. Govt was focusing on attracting high-end and long-stay tourists while promoting wellness tourism and education, he said.“We are creating facilities for high-end tourists in Goa and working towards the safety and security of the tourists,” the CM said, adding that Goa police reach the spot within three to four minutes when an incident involving tourists is reported.On public transport, Sawant said govt had introduced bus services connecting airports to major tourist destinations. He also said digital taxi services would soon be launched in the state to help tourists travel around Goa.The CM said mining had resumed in Goa and govt was promoting sustainable mining. However, mining would not be permitted in eco-sensitive areas.
