Panaji: Bicholim is set to revive fallow agricultural land under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan to boost local agriculture and create livelihood opportunities for farmers.Agricultural department officials and farmers have outlined an action plan to identify fallow plots and restore them to productive use.Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Swayampurna Goa scheme, agricultural officials, progressive farmers and other stakeholders identified the challenges preventing productive use of agricultural land and formulated practical solutions.Chairman of the Bicholim Farmers Producer Organisation (FPO), Vishwambar Gawas, said they discussed several issues affecting cultivation, including silt accumulation in water bodies, the need for fencing to protect crops, salt-water intrusion and limited access to ploughing services and agricultural machinery. They also explored activities that could help make unused land economically productive.Farmers highlighted better water management, protection of cultivated land and easier access to equipment, stressing coordination between govt departments and community action.“If implemented effectively, the initiative could help convert neglected land into a productive resource, while encouraging greater community participation in agriculture and supporting the broader objective of a self-reliant Goa,” said Gawas.
