After high deletions, Gurgaon logs most Form 6 applications in Haryana
Special camps are being held for voters who have received notices but have not yet submitted documents, or who need help

Gurgaon: After seeing the highest deletion in percentage terms of voters during the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Gurgaon has also registered the highest number of Form 6 (new voter) applications in Haryana, at 39,985.With 5,882 cases still pending, the administration has stepped up hearings and door-to-door visits to ensure eligible voters are not left out of the final list, in line with Election Commission of India’s (ECI) directions. The pending cases must be disposed of by Oct 28, ahead of the final roll’s publication on Nov 6.Between Oct 7 and 9, the administration heard 2,110 cases through special camps and door-to-door surveys, bringing pendency down from 7,992. The district has generated 4,75,477 SIR notices, officials said.Special camps are being held for voters who have received notices but have not yet submitted documents, or who need help. “In urban areas, special camps are organised on weekends for the convenience of residents,” said an election officer.ECI has directed booth-level officers (BLOs) to visit the homes of voters issued notices over unmapped records or logical discrepancies, collect supporting documents and upload them to the ECINet platform for consideration by the electoral registration officer (ERO). Such voters should not ordinarily be required to appear at the ERO’s or assistant ERO’s office. In exceptional cases, the ERO may arrange a hearing, preferably online. The directive is meant to make verification accessible so that procedural requirements do not stop eligible electors from establishing their claims.District election officer and deputy commissioner Uttam Singh is reviewing the pendency. “Voters who have received notices but are yet to submit supporting documents have been asked to provide them to the officials concerned or their BLOs at the earliest,” said Singh, adding that voters can also contact their respective BLOs with any query.Statewide, Haryana received 3,77,987 Form 6 applications for fresh registration, of which Gurgaon accounted for the most. Another 40,162 applications seeking deletion of names were also received. The claims-and-objections phase ended on Sept 30, though disposal will continue until Oct 28. The administration has shared lists of claims and objections received under Forms 6, 7 and 8 with political parties to improve transparency.ECI has also directed states where SIR is complete to run a special drive to enrol eligible voters who may have been left out, including young and first-time voters. Officials have been asked to compare pre-SIR and post-SIR rolls, identify people who were deleted but may still be eligible, and facilitate their re-enrolment through Form 6 under the continuous updation process. At the polling-station level, political parties have appointed booth-level agents at 2,713 polling stations in Gurgaon. The BJP has appointed 1,372 BLA-2 agents, the Congress 935 and the Indian National Lok Dal 506, according to the district administration.
