Chandigarh: Fifty-six researchers from Panjab University (PU) have featured in the 2026 edition of the prestigious Stanford–Elsevier database of the world’s top 2% scientists.According to university authorities, 54 faculty members were recognised for their single-year citation impact, while 28 earned spots in the career-long category. A total of 26 researchers featured in both categories, taking the total count of unique scientists to 56.The 2026 listing is compiled using an August 2026 Scopus data snapshot. The single-year metric measures citations received during 2025 for earlier published work, while the career-long metric evaluates cumulative citation impact accumulated up to the end of 2025.Notable scholars featured in both categories include Kewal Krishan, Harsh Nayyar, Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, Surinder Kumar Mehta, Harminder Pal Singh, Santosh Kumar Upadhyay, Sushil Kumar Kansal, Gargi Ghoshal, Daizy Rani Batish, Suman Mor, and Vishal Sharma.Additionally, the career-long category includes Madan M Aggarwal and Vishal Gupta, while researchers like Rajat Sandhir, Sanjay Chhibber, R K Kohli, and Renu Chadha featured prominently in the single-year list.Commending the accomplishment, PU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Meenakshi Goyal said the recognition reflected the university’s research output, interdisciplinary collaborations, and international visibility.She added that the scholars represented diverse academic streams, including clinical medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, environmental sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, engineering, materials science, and biotechnology.
