Mizoram cops restore over Rs 1.06cr to cybercrime victims in 2026

Aizawl: Mizoram Police recovered and restored more than Rs 1.06 crore to cybercrime victims in 2026 through the Money Restoration Module (MRM) and other lawful mechanisms, including court orders and action taken after investigation and due legal process, the police said in a statement on Friday.The Cyber Crime Police Station arrested nine alleged cybercriminals from across the state during the year, it said.To strengthen the fight against cybercrime, the state govt on July 27 notified the State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (S4C) as a separate unit under the Mizoram Police. The centre will deal with cybercrime detection, investigation, prosecution, mitigation, awareness and outreach, social media monitoring and emergency response.The MRM is a portal that assists cybercrime victims in recovering defrauded money that has been put on hold in bank accounts following complaints.The police said they had also acted on complaints involving indecent content on various social media platforms, resulting in the removal of several unlawful online content URLs.The S4C addressed and resolved 28 grievances received through the Grievance Redressal Module during the year, the statement said. The module helps citizens whose bank accounts are blocked without their knowledge or involvement in the transfer of fraudulent funds.Mizoram Police are also coordinating with police departments in other states to investigate cybercrime cases.As part of its cybercrime awareness initiatives, the police conducted 89 programmes in schools and colleges during 2026, reaching 9,376 students. Regular outreach programmes are being held, particularly for students, with more than 9,000 people attending such sessions this year, the statement said.
