Agartala: Resident doctors and postgraduate trainees (PGTs) at Agartala Govt Medical College announced an indefinite pen-down strike from Monday over an incident involving a senior resident doctor and related social media posts. The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) has asked authorities to meet four demands by Monday morning, warning that failure to do so will trigger the strike. The association said it went public after unauthorised and misleading content was circulated online. It said the issue involved the privacy, dignity and professional reputation of healthcare workers. The RDA has sought the arrest of and legal action against those allegedly responsible for recording and sharing a video of a clinical examination of a patient at the medical college hospital. It also demanded action against social media accounts and platforms accused of circulating unverified or defamatory content about the doctor.CM Manik Saha, who also holds the health portfolio, said, “I noticed the matter and have issued directions to address the issue. Because this situation involves a social media post and its circulation, the govt is examining the legal aspects to manage it. The doctors must also recognise the effects of their protest on society.”The RDA demanded the removal of all online videos, photos and reels it described as misleading and defamatory, and urged authorities to prevent further circulation. It also called for corrections, clarifications and apologies from media outlets and social media platforms where legally necessary. The association said unverified content could undermine the doctor-patient relationship and public trust. It urged the public to verify information before sharing or judging social media posts.Resident doctors and PGTs said they would continue their professional duties while pursuing their demands.
