Silchar: The Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) has invited public views on the draft Dimasa Kachari Customary Law Bill, 2026, as it moves towards codifying the community’s customary practices through legislation.The council’s legislative department has sought comments, suggestions and objections from the public, customary and traditional institutions, village authorities, community organisations and other stakeholders before the draft bill is finalised.According to a public notice issued by the department, representations may be submitted in writing to the secretary of the legislative department at DHAC headquarters in Haflong. The deadline for submissions is Oct 31.Copies of the draft bill will be available from the legislative department during office hours. The draft has also been uploaded on the council’s website for public scrutiny.Stakeholders have been asked to examine the proposed legislation and submit their views within the stipulated period so that their suggestions and objections can be considered before the bill is finalised.The proposed legislation deals with Dimasa Kachari customary law. The consultation will give traditional institutions, village authorities, community bodies and members of the public an opportunity to present their views before the council considers the bill in its final form.
