Samik writes to PM, seeks setting up of Paschimbanga Bhavan in Varanasi

Kolkata: Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya has written to PM Narendra Modi to build a Paschimbanga Bhavan in Varanasi to strengthen the “spiritual ties of Bengal with the oldest living city in the world”. Varanasi is Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency.During his two-day visit to Varanasi, Bhattacharya on Sunday morning visited the century-old Kali temple in Bangali Tola.Calling for renovation and preservation of the historic temple, Bhattacharya said he had written to PM, seeking construction of Paschimbanga Bhavan on the temple premises. “Bengalis visit Varanasi in large numbers every year. They need a place to stay. The temple constructed by the king of Cooch Behar (Maharaja Harendra Narayan Bhup Bahadur) will also be renovated,” he said.“This heritage property of the Cooch Behar Debottar Trust represents much more than a religious site,” Bhattacharya added.BJP national general secretary Sunil Bansal, who accompanied Bhattacharya, said, “We will definitely extend all possible support for the proposed project. People of Bengal will be proud of this.”
