Noida: Gas supply to Supertech Eco Village 1 in Greater Noida West was disrupted early on Tuesday after an IGL pipeline was damaged during road-widening work by Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA). The disruption affected more than 1,000 families in the morning.A resident of the society, Manish Kumar, said an excavator damaged the pipeline at 5 am. “About 1,000 families are living in the society and the lack of gas supply hampered their breakfast,” he said. Although every IGL warning signboard says that the company must be contacted before excavation in the area, it is not clear if it was contacted by the GNIDA contractor.TOI tried to reach out to GNIDA and the contractor, but there were no answers.Many families, however, went into panic mode when they found out that the gas supply to their cooktops had been cut off.A resident, Rashmi, said, “When I went to the kitchen in the morning to make tea, I found there was no gas supply. So, I had to bring out my emergency induction cooktop.”Others too resorted to electric appliances like electric kettles and cookers as news spread across the society’s WhatsApp group; there were several families who had no option but to wait for repairs.However, a complaint was made to the IGL team, which promptly addressed the damage by 9.15am. IGL has urged residents to report any issues related to gas supply to ensure swift action in such situations to prevent future inconveniences.
